Electrical Controls Engineer

Marine Hydraulic Consultancy (MHC) is a premier global leader in hydraulic and control systems for large cruising / racing orientated sailing yachts. We design, supply, commission, troubleshoot, optimize, and support electro-hydraulic systems for the superyacht industry worldwide. MHC’s highly crafted designs are the most recognizable and highest performing in the industry. We are an expanding organization with a remarkable customer base. We have an immediate need for an electrical controls engineer to design electrical control systems for superyachts.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Design electrical schematics using Solidworks Electrical
  • Design electrical system architectures using AutoCAD
  • Layout electrical enclosures in 2D and 3D using Autodesk Inventor
  • Select and size electrical components and conductors
  • Generate PLC I/O lists using Excel
  • Program PLC’s and graphical user interfaces with CoDeSys (experience with ifm Efector and Cross Controls hardware a plus)
  • Proficient experience in industrial networking protocols, specifically CANOpen and J1939
  • Design HMI applications for simplicity and usability
  • Generate estimates for cost and time given a concept. Quote general turnkey control schemes (analyze specifications, price all applicable labor and materials, write a proposed scope of work, etc.)
  • Generate operating and control manuals
  • Keep all technical documentation, schematics and software current and cataloged
  • Implement new process procedures and modifications for more efficient operations
  • Provide technical support to customers via phone, email or on-site visits (both domestic and international)
  • Interface directly with customers and vendors for technical support and information

 

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or electrical engineering
  • 5 years of applicable engineering experience
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including Ethernet IP, CANopen, and J1939
  • Experience in developing design and engineering best practices
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrate electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic troubleshooting capability
  • Commitment to working in a team oriented and continuous improvement environment
  • Ability to travel to customer site for system commissioning and support, includes international travel
  • Solid computer skills (Windows, Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.)
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Creative out-of-the-box thinker

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with designing and troubleshooting industrial and mobile control systems
  • A higher level programming language knowledge such as C++
  • Experience in fabrication, assembly, wiring, and panel building
  • Experience with 480VAC, 120VAC, and 3-phase and 24VDC voltage power distribution and layouts
  • Hydraulic control knowledge
